How to Highlight Specific Districts in India
Navigating the complex geography of the Indian subcontinent with Mapimator's Magic Wand tool.
By Mapimator Editorial#India#Geography#Tutorial

India’s geography is as diverse as it is vast. Whether you're mapping Haryana, Odisha, or specific districts like Kalahandi, the Magic Wand makes precise selection easy.
1. Zoom and Granularity
The Magic Wand is designed for different levels of detail:
- Global View: Selects the whole of India.
- Regional View (Zoom level 4-6): Selects individual States like Rajasthan or Bihar.
- Local View (Zoom 7+): While we currently offer State-level selection, you can use the Shape Tool (Circle or Rectangle) to highlight specific districts like Kalahandi or areas within Kanpur.
2. Styling the Highlight
- Color Choice: For educational projects, choose vibrant, contrasting colors for each state.
- Opacity: Keep the fill opacity at 0.5 so that the dense street networks and 3D city models are still identifiable.
- Animation: Set the transition to Smooth and the region animation to Draw to show the state borders "painting" themselves.
3. Topographic Stories
India has dramatic topography, from the Himalayas to the Deccan Plateau.
- Use the Terrain Map Style.
- Hold Right Click + Drag to pitch the map and see the realistic elevation data.
- Use Route Stickers in Direct Mode to trace the paths of the Ganges or the historical Silk Road branches.
To ensure your final 4K video is crisp and ready for broadcast or social media, always allow the Studio to rendering preparation before exporting.
